Kalaw, Myanmar

Kalaw to Inle Lake Trek, Myanmar

I've included over 100 pictures of my three day trek from Kalaw to Inle Lake in this gallery. It was a truly humbling experience to trek through the region.

In between the jungles, plantations and rice paddies, we found peaceful, happy villagers who were just as interested in us as we were in them.

It was a completely diffferent experience to Nepal. You really felt you were completely off the tourist trail. The sleepily beautiful countryside makes for a truly rewarding hike.

The peaceful hill town of Kalaw. A former retreat from the punishing Burmese summer sun, now it's a sleepy market town.

Aside from the charming markets and great eating, it's home to a cave complex housing literally hundreds of little Buddha statues.

Kalaw's also a great hiking base. It's cooler climate is a welcome relief from the heat of Yangon. We began our three day hike to Inle lake from here.

Shwedagon Pagoda, Yangon, Myanmar

As you can see from these pictures, the Shwedagon Pagoda dominates the skyline of Yangon. It's scale is unbelievable, and it's completely covered in gold, jewels, rubies and tourists.

You can't miss it if you're in Yangon, and it was easy to lose track of the time watching the worshipers make their ritual circuit of the central pagoda.

Kathmandu, Nepal

The beautiful chaos that is Kathmandu, Nepal. These pictures were taken a few weeks before the earthquake of 2015.

Kathmandu includes the previously seperate citie sof Barakphur and Pattan. The odern city sprawls over the three ancient sites, each with their own Durbar (Royal) Square.

Trekking to Everest Base Camp, Nepal

It was so hard to pick which pictures to post from this trek. Quite simply the most beautiful scenerey I have ever seen.

The hospitality we experienced supassed all of my expectations, and I wouldn't hestiate in recommending this trip to anyone. I went with G-Adventures, and they were great.

The highlight for me was watching the sun rise over Everest from Kalapathar.

The beauty and scale of the Himalayas has to be seen to be believed. After the tragic earthquake, the Everest region communities will need the income from hiking more than ever.

Credit to my friend Carlos for some of these pictures.

Humayan's Tomb and The Red Fort, New Delhi, India

The Red Fort is one of the must see sights of Old Delhi, dominating the landscape with its massive red walls.

I took an audio tour and spent hours meandering around its majestic buildings and museums.

My sister's apartment is a brisk walk from the amazing compound of Humayun's Tomb, right in the middle of Urban New Delhi.

It was built to house the remains of the great Mughal Emperor Humayan.

Fresh off the plane from the UK, I loved the intricate beauty of the buildings and the gardens.
